About me
I'm thirty one, and British (born in Yorkshire, but picked up a Scottish accent from some time in Scotland). I've been a professional software developer for seven years, and married to the most wonderful woman for almost five of those. We live in the far North of England (you can't get much further without hitting Scotland).
Currently a C# programmer, and I have a C++ history. I've done a lot of database design and SQL work. Done a lot with XML, web development, and used eXtreme Programming & Design Patterns. I've also worked with FoxPro, Infomix 4GL, and SAP ABAP. I'd like to change to Java, especially given its recent move to the GPL license.
I'm a total Trekkie, and I hope they come up with another series soon. I was even a fan of Enterprise, once it got started. Also quite a stereotypical geek. Got the long hair and beard to prove it.
My first computer was a BBC Electron (don't laugh). Actually it was the family computer. I discovered Free Software when I found DJGPP in my late teens, and wondered why anyone would do it any other way ever since.
I have not run proprietary software at home since 1997, and am a proponent of Free Software (as I'm sure you've realised).
I like writing just about as much as programming, and would like it to help finance some work with Free Software.
Currently, the projects I find most interesting are ippimail, and gNewSense.
